Still Conversations is a conversation that takes place between Seoul and San Francisco.
Alex is in San Francisco.
Mushi is in Seoul.
This project began in 2015 between Seoul and San Francisco. The main goal of our collaboration was to maintain connection and continue building ideas even at a distance. Using precepts of nonverbal communication, body language, mimicry and mirroring we worked to understand each other through an exchange of images. At a time when visa issues for Mushi caused us to be frequently separated between US and South Korea, we developed this project and continued it over five years.
The instructions were simple. One of us takes a photograph of ourselves and the other copies it, sending a new one back. Mimicking and mirroring created a profound almost telepathic sense of connection. The distance and proximity that this conversation covers is invisible.
How do we share a physical experience without being physically together?
